Gregory Smith

Educational Concert Works

 TESTIMONIALS

It has been my honor and pleasure to conduct more than 100 performances of Gregory Smith's educational works with orchestras across the country. Audience members of all ages are fully engaged and spectacularly entertained by his music, and the orchestra members always have a blast bringing these hilarious scores to life. Gregory's music is well-crafted and brilliantly orchestrated, and the marriage of music and narration is exceptional. And for all the fun and clever humor throughout, each work has a wonderful heart, with a surprisingly touching "goosebump moment" near the end. I love sharing his music with young audiences and encourage Education Directors, Artistic Administrators, and my fellow conductors to program Gregory's music. You'll have a memorable experience!

__________

For the past 35 years, composer and narrator Greg Smith has produced the best pieces for educational concerts, period. These are not just works that entertain, but they teach as well . . . and not just about music. Want to learn how sound is produced? Try Vibe. Want to learn about the character of sounds in animals? Listen to Zoo Song. What about how the compositional process works? That would be Mr. Smith's Composition. Throughout my career, I've returned to Greg's pieces over and over. Why? Because there simply is no composer who writes music that not only connects with young audiences, but also engages adults, on the first listening. It has been an honor and a privilege to premier a couple of his works, and I can tell you that the professional musicians are engaged as much as the audience. From the Animated Orchestra to The Orchestra Games, if you want to have fun at an educational, youth, or family concert, Greg Smith is the name that should always be your first consideration.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Greg! Our collaboration from beginning to end was extremely enjoyable. Greg’s music incorporates so many wonderful musical elements that are easy to grasp for young audiences, as well as gratifying for the musicians in the orchestra. Having the composer as narrator makes the end product so much better and cohesive. It’s a great show and I highly recommend it!
