VIBE
VIBE is a symphonic exploration of the incredible world of sound for family and educational concerts. It aligns with the S.T.E.A.M. (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) curriculum and approach to education.
As with Smith’s other works in the genre, the general tone of VIBE is lighthearted and humorous. Recurring audience participation keeps the audience focused and involved.
Vibe explores:
How energy vibrates air molecules, forms sound waves, and travels to our ears
How our voices produce sound
How musical instruments produce sound
The speed of sound and the significance of having two ears
Reverb and echo
How sound behaves in air, water, solids, and outer space
Instrumentation: 3(pic),2,2,2 - 4,3,3,1 - Timp+2 (opt. 3), Harp, Strings, Narrator
Duration: 34 minutes (easily adaptable)
Vibe was commissioned and premiered by the Fort Collins Symphony and Music Director Wes Kenney in 2018-2019.
